Sai Baba is a very popular saint and is worshipped by devotees all over the world. The name ‘Sai’ was given to him on his arrival at Shirdi, where a local temple priest recognized him as a Muslim priest. The word ‘Sai’ or Sayi is a Persian title given to Sufi saints whereas ‘Baba’ is a term used to refer to ‘father’ or ‘old man’ in most Indian and Middle Eastern languages. Thus, the name Sai Baba was given to him. Sai Baba preached at Shirdi all his life and performed numerous miracles. He provided moral and material comfort to his devotees and also helped bring unity and harmony between all communities.

At 10PM ‘Shej Arati’ is offered. As Shri Sai Baba retires for the day. A mosquito net is put over the idol of lord Shri Sai. A jug of water is also kept on the dais of Samadhi. Every Thursday and on special days Shri Sai Baba’s padukas (sacred foot wear) are kept in palanquin along with his portrait, a regal procession is taken from Samadhi Mandir to DwarkaMai and Chawri.
